If you have lived in Los Gatos for more than a couple of summers, the June-through-August calendar has felt like a known quantity: Wednesday jazz at Town Plaza Park, Sunday concerts on the Civic Center Lawn, and a Sunday farmers' market that runs rain or shine. That is still the spine of the season. What is different this year is that the town rewrote a piece of its municipal code in February, and the practical effect only shows up if you walk N. Santa Cruz Avenue on a First Thursday between five and nine.
The short version is that downtown now runs on a three-night rhythm instead of two, and the new night comes with a rulebook that did not exist twelve months ago. Below is how the week actually maps for a resident, with the new openings that fill in the spaces between events.
The ordinance that quietly changed the block
On February 17, 2026, the Town Council adopted Ordinance 2382, allowing the establishment of an Entertainment Zone within the C-2 Downtown Zone. Activation requires approval through the Town's Special Event Permit process, and once approved, establishments permanently located within the activated Entertainment Zone, with proper ABC approval, may allow patrons to purchase alcoholic beverages within their licensed premise and leave the establishment with the beverages, while remaining within the public area designated as the Entertainment Zone. The Town's ordinance number to reference at ABC is 2382.
That paragraph of code is doing the work in the background. The visible version, from the Chamber, reads like this:
During GOLD Thursdays, adults 21+ with an official wristband, issued at point of sale, may purchase an alcoholic beverage from participating downtown businesses and enjoy it while strolling the sidewalks of the Entertainment Zone from 5 to 9pm. N. Santa Cruz Avenue will remain open to car traffic. The GOLD Thursday Entertainment Zone is marked in yellow.
The distinction from The Promenade of prior years matters: the street is not closed to cars, the wristband is issued at the register rather than at a festival gate, and the footprint is a zone, not an event block. It is closer to a New Orleans open-container district than to a street fair, scaled down to a suburban main street.
Thursday, first of the month, five to eight
GOLD Thursdays run every first Thursday from May through October, with live music, entertainment, dining, shopping, and one-day promotions. Anchors so far have included Timo Steel Drum from 5 to 8pm and astronaut photo ops and balloon twisting near Salt & Straw from 5 to 7pm, with Old Town serving as a secondary hub off N. Santa Cruz. The May activation opened with complimentary cookies from Antoine's Cookie Shop, a template the Chamber has repeated with different partners each month.
A workable Thursday route, for a resident who has done this a few times already:
- Pick up a wristband at a participating N. Santa Cruz storefront before six, when the sidewalk fills.
- Walk south toward the Old Town side for the music and family activations.
- Drift back north for dinner at one of the restaurants below.
- Finish with dessert at Salt & Straw or Antoine's before nine, when the zone stands down.

Wednesday at the Plazz
The Wednesday anchor is Jazz on the Plazz at Town Plaza Park on Montebello Way, and this year the season is shorter and starts later than the historical June opener. The 2026 season commences July 8, with eight Wednesday evenings beginning at 6:30pm. The kickoff is Heidi "sweetheart of swing" Evelyn and the Jazz Sophisticates Dance Orchestra, opening the series at Town Plaza Park. Two other names locals will recognize on the lineup: Tony Lindsay, longtime lead vocalist for Santana and multiple Grammy winner, and Pamela Parker leading The Fantastic Machine in a piano-centered set.
The series is a fundraiser produced by Los Gatos Music & Arts, a nonprofit that provides opportunities for the Silicon Valley community to enjoy fine arts through live performances, exhibitions and educational programs. Reserved front-row seating is sold; the lawn is free, and the newly replanted grass this year is a small quality-of-life upgrade for anyone who has been unpacking a blanket at that park for two decades.
Sunday on the Civic Center Lawn
The Sunday anchor is the older one. Music in the Park has been a free public summer concert series held on Sunday afternoons since 1988, from 5 to 7pm on the Los Gatos Civic Center Lawn at 110 E. Main Street. Nothing about the format has changed. What has changed is the neighborhood it feeds into after seven, which brings us to the restaurants.
The restaurants that were not here last summer
The downtown dining map has quietly re-drawn itself in the past twelve months, and the openings line up almost too neatly with the three event nights.
- Heritage Pub and Chop House — Opened December 2025 on the second story of a building in downtown Los Gatos. The owners, Walker and Kristi Pearce-Percy, are husband and wife and both Los Gatos natives. A second-story room is a different post-concert energy than a street-level bar.
- Danbi — Janet Shoh's third location of Danbi Korean BBQ, in the former Montebello Market space next to Parkside on Montebello Way, roughly thirty steps from where Jazz on the Plazz sets up. The move fills a gap the block had held for a while.
- Vicinity — A fine-dining concept announced in January 2026 by the Mercury News, preparing to debut in Los Gatos and adding to the upper tier of a downtown already anchored by Forbes Mill Steakhouse and Tasting House's Champagne-and-caviar pairings at 368 Village Lane.
- Pergamon Bistro — A Turkish concept from owner Seyyat Zira, planned for 309 N Santa Cruz Avenue, placing it near Oak & Rye and Pedro's. An opening date has not been announced. The alcohol license application had been filed as of early 2026.
Read against the incumbents, the pattern is more coherent than a random cluster of new leases. Gardenia runs brunch, dinner, and a coffee house under the same roof in a historic Victorian mansion with live music on Fridays and Saturdays. Los Gatos Parkside built its reputation on shared small plates and craft cocktails directly adjacent to Town Plaza Park. Oak & Rye, at 303 N Santa Cruz Avenue, holds the pizza standard with Neapolitan-style pies and a craft cocktail program. The new arrivals are not competing with those places so much as filling out the parts of the week they do not cover.
For the Sunday circuit, the connective tissue is unchanged: Purple Onion Café on Main Street near the Los Gatos Creek Trail entrance handles the post-market coffee-and-pastry window; Southern Kitchen, a family-owned no-reservations spot that draws weekend lines, covers the brunch hour; PintxoPote at 424 N Santa Cruz Avenue, a Spanish tapas bar across from the Downtown Los Gatos sign, handles the longer evening.
The July 4 question
If you are new-ish to town and expecting a downtown fireworks show, the answer is that the celebration lives at Oak Meadow Park. The Chamber lists Independence Day Festivities in Oak Meadow Park, celebrating the 4th of July as a community, on July 4, followed by the Dammit Run in August, a rugged 5-mile course that starts at the high school, proceeds to the dam and then heads to St. Joseph's Hill, drawing 800 people a year and benefiting Los Gatos High School. That is the shoulder-week rhythm: park on the fourth, road race a month later.
Putting the week together
For someone who already lives here, the practical summary is that the summer week now has three usable anchor nights instead of two, and the new one comes with a rulebook worth reading once.
- First Thursday, 5–9pm. GOLD Thursday. Wristband at point of sale, drink in hand on the sidewalk, N. Santa Cruz still open to cars. Music at Old Town and near Grays Lane.
- Wednesday, 6:30–8:30pm, July 8 through late August. Jazz on the Plazz at Town Plaza Park. Free on the lawn.
- Sunday, 5–7pm. Music in the Park at the Civic Center Lawn. Free, same shape as it has been since 1988.
Around those, the Sunday Farmers' Market at Town Plaza runs from 9 AM to 1 PM every week, rain or shine, with local produce, crepes, artisanal goods, and rotating food vendors, and Heritage, Danbi, Vicinity when it opens, and eventually Pergamon give the block places to land that did not exist twelve months ago.
